TP-Link Powerline Adapter LED Lights and Symbols: What They Mean
This guide explains the LED lights and symbols on TP-Link powerline adapters and what each one means under normal operation and in power-save mode. Most TP-Link powerline adapter lights follow the same pattern: three LEDs covering Power, Powerline connection, and Ethernet. Wi-Fi models include a fourth Wi-Fi LED. Understanding your powerline lights' meaning helps you quickly identify connection issues or confirm everything is working correctly.
Key Takeaways
- TP-Link powerline adapters typically have three LED lights: Power, Powerline (connection), and Ethernet. Wi-Fi models include a fourth Wi-Fi LED.
- The Power LED should be on at all times. If it is off, try a different wall socket. It will flash during pairing or while in power-save mode.
- The Powerline LED turns on when a successful powerline connection is established and turns off in power-save mode.
- The Ethernet LED turns on when a device is connected to the Ethernet port and powered on. It flashes during data transfer.
- The Wi-Fi LED is on or flashing rapidly when the wireless function is enabled. It flashes slowly during Wi-Fi cloning.

Power LED:
It should be on all the time. If it is off, try plugging the adapter into a different wall socket. If the adapter still does not power on, contact TP-Link support to chck warranty.
During pairing or in power-save mode, the Power LED will flash. After the process is complete, the Power LED will return to steady on. For homeplugAV2 like TL-PA8010P, TL-PA8030P, it will blink every 15 seconds when the power-saving mode is on. About how to pair them, please refer to the FAQ below:

Powerline LED:
After you have successfully made the powerline connection, the Powerline LED will be on. It will be off when it is in Power-Save mode.
For TL-PA511/TL-PA551, there are three colors for this light.

For homeplugAV2 like TL-PA8010P, TL-PA8030P, there are three kinds of status.

Ethernet LED:
When any device is connected to the Ethernet port and is powered on, the Ethernet LED will be on. It will flash with data transfer. The adapter will enter power-save mode only after the Ethernet LED has been off for more than five minutes.
For homeplugAV2 devices like TL-PA8010P and TL-PA8030P, there's only an on/off switch, which means the Ethernet port is either connected or not.
Wi-Fi LED:
Normally, the Wi-Fi LED is on or flashing rapidly, which means the wireless connection is enabled. In the Wi-Fi cloning process, the light will flash slowly. Press and hold the Wi-Fi button for at least five seconds to turn the wireless function on or off. The wireless function is on by default. You can turn it off at night and then turn it back on in the morning by pressing this button.
